David Stewart (MBE), the Malt Master at Balvenie, has worked at the distillery for over 50 years. It must be quite remarkable for him to bottle a Balvenie 40 year old, which was filled in to casks when he was just through his first 10 years at the distillery.
Bottled at a cask strength of 42.2%, this is a special dram that shows warming spice with layers of honeyed oak and rich fruit.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose – Honey and orange marmalade notes mingle with a creamy fruitiness.
Palate – Orange blossom, candied ginger and a honeyed sweetness, followed by oak, mouth-coating vanilla notes and a delicate, sherried fruitiness.
Finish – Warm and elegant with a honeyed, citrus richness.
